What is the Special Needs Committee?

The Committee is an advisory body comprised of multiple districts throughout the state of Colorado.  The Committee provides recommendations and advice to the CSPTA Executive board, Colorado Department of Education, and general membership in new or continuing areas of research, program development and evaluation in transporting the Colorado special education students.

Who serves on the Committee?

The Committee consists of members from multiple transportation departments throughout the state and the Colorado Department of Education. The membership consists of drivers, trainers, transportation operators and administrators, persons knowledgeable about the administration of special education, transportation, and related services.

How does one become a member?

Any individual interested in becoming a member needs to have their supervisor send a message expressing interest to the Committee chair.  The chair will then share the interest with all Committee members who then will vote.  There is no term limit.

The Committee addresses numerous issues in Colorado Special Education transportation including:

When does the Commission meet?

The Committee holds meetings monthly, rotating through member’s districts. As required sub-committee meetings will be called and held, some members may also attend meetings of other official and related organizations as liaisons. All Committee meetings are open; a request to attend needs to be placed with the chair prior to meeting date.  Agendas are prepared and sent to members and resulting minutes are posted once Committee members officially approve them.
