EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent, plus specialized courses in vocational or college certification for diesel engines.

EXPERIENCE:

Over two years and up to five years experience in gas and diesel engine overhaul and repairs, automatic and standard transmission overhaul and repair plus 3-5 years experience in medium/heavy duty truck repair.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

Basic ability to read and trace electrical diagrams, math, writing skills and computer software knowledge for electronic work orders. Operating knowledge of current fleet maintenance software as it applies to job and handheld diagnostic scanner required after 12 months of hire.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: 
 

ASE Master School Bus Technician & ASE Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technician required for hire. CDE Inspector Qualification Certification, DOT Inspector, Colorado Emission License (Gas & Diesel), CDL BP2S, First Aid certification as required by the Colorado Dept. of Education within 3-6 months after hire. Colorado Driver's license must be maintained as a condition of continued employment. Employee will be required to operate District vehicles. Employee must maintain a driving record which meets the standards of the District insurance policy.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Acts as a technical resource for driver in-services to address mechanical issues, including training, demonstrating, and answering questions.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS:

Low exposure to self and to others to chemical burns, disease, loss of limb, loss of sight, disfigurement and fatality due to handling battery acid, working with others, lifting heavy objects and working with grinders and rotary equipment. Medium exposure to self and others to heat burns, fractured bones and hernia due to heat from engines, slips and falls, and lifting heavy vehicle components. High exposure to self and/or others to bruises, cuts and repetitive motion or stress due to working in tight spaces, handling sharp objects and sheet metal and bending, stooping and kneeling.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; work with explosives; vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.
